Operation Year Trainee TrackWhat is Operation Year? Operation Year is a ten-month training programme for those who want to invest their lives in urban ministry. Students receive relevant classroom training, as well as experience using their talents and building relationships in the community. The programme includes a two-month mission trip to another country. (In 2007, our students went to Israel and the West Bank.) Edinburgh has a long history of being a hotbed for higher learning. Moreover, it's a wonderful place to immerse yourself in urban ministry, as well as ministry in the arts. Our holistic approach brings students face to face with the spiritual, physical, mental, and social needs of a fast-paced, cosmopolitan culture. If you have a passion for urban ministry in the context of a highly supportive network of other followers of Jesus, consider applying for our Operation Year training programme. Many of our applicants use their artistic talents - whether dance, drama, music, painting, administration, or other - in the community. But we welcome applications from people who are interested in diverse forms of urban ministry to adults, children, and youth. Primarily, we are looking for students who are compassionate, who love working in a team, and who are passionate to share the joys and sorrows of people in the real world. We simply want to be the living, breathing, authentic "church without walls" that Jesus established with his friends. Dates: October '08 to August '09. The Bible is central to our curriculum, and teaching topics include God's nature and character, encountering God, biblical world view, God's intention for people, creating with God, prayer, hearing God's voice, worship, identity, sin, generous living, God's family, relationships, teamwork, community, destiny, missions, the poor, the new global landscape, understanding other religions, and much more.
